The twelve dancing princesses is a fairy tale, but I don't think it is as well known as others like Snow White and Cinderella. It is about Twelve Princesses who sneak out to go dancing every night and come back with holes in their shoes each morning. Their father wants to know what they been up to so decrees that who ever can figure out what they are to gets to pick one of his daughters to marry. Wildwood Dancing is pretty different from the traditional version, but I enjoyed it a lot. The Six Swans is an Irish fairy tale that I had heard of, but didn't know very well. There are different variations of it, but it is typically about the daughter of a king or lord, and she has to save her brothers who turned into swans. She was to weave them shirts (of various materials depending on the version) without uttering a single sound. The Daughter of the forest was a really good retelling in my opinion, and the rest of the trilogy was just as good. I highly recommend them.

They are definitely worth your while. I actually just got another book by Juliet Marillier in the mail yesterday and I am really excited to read it. She just has such a unique style of writing.

I love "different" books. I also love books that make you go, "woah. I was NOT expecting that!"

Yeah I know exactly what you mean. My friend (who doesn't read that much) pointed out to me that all fantasy books are pretty much the same and therefore really predictable. I still love them anyway, but it always really thrilling when something unexpected happens. Another book I read, Hero's Son by Edith Pattou was like that. The over all plot was pretty typical, but she had a lot of really creative ideas that were unusual and made the story really enjoyable.

I don't think all fantasy books are the same at all! I really like fantasy for the variety actually!

Thank you for pointing that out. After he said that I, sort of started to believe, but now you have me thinking again. You have a lot more options with fantasy. There are so many different places you can go to whether it exists or not. I have always liked fantasy because I live the real world everyday, so I want to read something that is different.

EXACTLY! I really like being able to "hang with vampires for a day" and then the next, go to Hogwarts with Harry, Ron, and Hermione. Then there is Eragon where you can live with Dragons... and the Pendragon books where you time jump to different "worlds" to battle an evil St. Dane... ohhh the possibilities!!

You totally just listed all the ones I get into the most. There times when I get really depressed because I want to taste butterbeer from the three broomsticks, and ever since I turned eleven without getting a letter, I know that can't happen.

But I do believe, somewhere out there all the stories we read about do exist. Even if it is in some other galaxy. Maybe that's where black holes lead to. It almost makes me want to be an astronaut so that i can find out, but that would be pretty risky...

I really don't know. I think it would be so cool if that were the case but I have no idea what is out there IF there is anything! but wouldn't that be amazing? -sigh-

there was this one time in 9th grade and we had a creative writing class, and the prompt was writing as if you were the sole survivor of crash on mars and you only had one message to write back to earth. So I pretended I fell through a rabbit hole and landed in Hogwarts. the whole class was like "Not AGAIN!!" I was just getting over a major phase of Harry Potter obsession. It was pretty funny.

ahahahaha that is funny. All the english classes I have taken don't have fun writing topics like that, and I just haven't had any time to take any creative writing classes...

Well this one was pretty cool because it wasn't my usual english teacher. Our school has like an art program it teams up with so every thursday we had this guy come in and teach us which was huge relief because are usual teacher was soooo full of himself. The latest tale he has supposedly told is that he fought off a bear single-handedly in Yosemite to defend his wife and daughters. I cracked up when I heard that one.
